Downtown Historic District Marker Procedure

The Rockdale Downtown Association approved a Historic Building Marker Program at their January 3, 2011 Directors Meeting. A Marker Committee worked during 2010 to develop a process that will recognize historic buildings within the Rockdale Downtown Historic District.

Downtown historic district is: Belton Street on the North – South to Milam, First and Pear Streets, West from Wilcox to East on Green Street.

Buildings within the above area must be fifty (50) years or older. Research shall include the first business ownership, original date the structure was built, original business use (type of business) and present address. The application is available at the following link: Marker Application and procedure in Word Format
An application can be picked up Monday through Friday at 134 N. Main, Rockdale from 9 am – 5 pm. The application can be completed and emailed to info@rockdaledowntownassociation.com or faxed to 512 446 7778.

This is the first year this program is available and the deadline for applications has been extended to February 1, 2011.

Downtown Association is interested in the historic downtown area and is working to preserve and protect the historic buildings. Research has proven that Cities with preserved downtown buildings are remembered by people who travel through town. Studies show that traverlers are more likely to “Stop and Shop” in a place where restored buildings and Historic Markers tell the history of the town. For more information call: 512-446-6684
